Jagdish Chandra Bose

Scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose is also known as the father of radio science. The scientist who discovered radio waves started it from a small room in the college. Where there was neither a laboratory nor any equipment. Plants also have life. They also feel pain. Light and temperature affect them.

Early Life and Education of Jagadish Chandra Bose-

Jagadish Chandra Bose was born on 30 November 1858 in Rarauli village of Memon Singh. This place is currently in Bangladesh. Bose received his early schooling in a local school. His father had founded this institution. His financially well-off father could have easily sent him to an English school, but he preferred that the boy learn his mother tongue and have a full understanding of his culture before studying English. Bose received a BA from Cambridge University, a BSc from the University of London and a DSc from University College London.

Exploring and Discovering-

Bose carried on with his research at Presidency College inspite of depressing circumstances like non-existent research facilities and related paraphernalia, discouraging snubs from superiors and decrepit infrastructure, to name a few. His lab was a small enclosure adjoining a bathroom. He would stay on in his lab long after the classes were over. He met expenses for the experiments himself and even fabricated the equipment using his sheer ingenuity. It was in such surroundings that a device for producing electromagnetic waves was invented by Bose.

Jagadish Chandra Bose created a gadget called the Cresco graph. It was able to measure many waves around it. At the Royal Society, he later used an experiment to show life in trees and trees. His discovery was appreciated by the whole world. He used a placard to express the happiness of the plant in the device. Bose then poured bromide into the root system of the plant. As a result, the activity of the plants became erratic. The excitation measurement device on the plant then stopped working. This meant that the plant was no longer alive. But Marconi is credited with the invention of radio for getting a patent in his name.

Why did Jagadish Chandra Bose not patent his invention? When this question was asked to him, he said that his invention was done for the benefit of humanity. He believed that inventions should not be used for personal gain, so he decided not to get them patent in his name.

When did Jagadish Chandra Bose die?

Jagadish Chandra Bose died on 23 November 1937 in Giridih, Bihar (now Jharkhand). He was a great scientist who contributed to botany and physics. He died due to old age and illness.

Short summary about sir Jagdish Chandra Bose

Born in Bengal, British India, Bose graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta. He then went to the University of London to study medicine, but due to health problems he had to leave his studies midway and return to India. He then took up the post of professor of physics at Presidency College and conducted many important scientific experiments. He made extraordinary progress in wireless signal transmission and was the first to use semiconductors to intercept radio messages.

But instead of taking commercial advantage of his discoveries, he published them publicly so that other researchers could work further on them. After this, he made many discoveries in plant biology. He invented an instrument called crescograph and studied the response of plants to various stimuli. In this way, he proved that there is a lot of similarity between the tissues of plants and animals. He was very much against the patent process and applied for a patent only on the insistence of friends.

In recent years, his contributions to modern science are being recognized again. He was the first Indian scientist to receive an American patent. He is considered the father of radio science. He also wrote science fiction and is considered the father of Bengali science fiction literature. He never won a Nobel Prize for his work. Instead, Marconi was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1909.
